Hey there Little Red Riding Hood

You sure are looking good.  Remember that song?

Although my Blog postings have been lacking lately, I've been very productive.  Today I want to share a cute project I've just finished called "To Grandmother's House".   It's a felt doll and play mat/bag panel from Sew a Story by Jennifer Long.  I've made this project as an Easter gift for my granddaughter.

If you think about the story, it's a little scary having the big bad wolf eat grandmother.  And the wolf tries to eat Little Red Riding Hood until the woodsman kills the wolf saving Little Red and freeing Grandmother.   Is it proper to read these kind of stories to young kids any more?  Rather she hears the original story or creates her own stories, I think she'll have fun playing with it.

The panel includes Grandmother's house and numerous accessories to play with.  What I thought would be a quick project ended up taking couple full days of embellishing and sewing all the pieces.  The house folds up to be a carrying case with pockets for the pieces.

I had on my to-do-list to make quiet books from felt for my grandkids.  This project ended up being great experience and inspiration to start tackling these books.  I think this panel could even end up a double page in a quiet book.  Maybe even create my own page for another story.
